How we rate, review, and accept books at SMIBookClub
Our Approach to Reviews
SMIBookClub reviews span romance, young adult, and paranormal fiction. Our contributors — including Midian S, Jenn, Rachel N, and Mags — read each title with care and share honest, personal impressions. Every review reflects the individual reviewer's experience, not a consensus opinion.
We aim to highlight what works in a story, note what doesn't land, and give readers enough context to decide if a book belongs on their shelf. Ratings accompany each review to provide a quick at-a-glance take.
Rating Standards
Our reviewers assign ratings based on character development, plot pacing, emotional impact, and overall enjoyment. While each contributor brings their own lens, we strive for consistency: a high rating signals a book that deeply resonated, while a lower rating points to specific shortcomings explained in the review text.
We do not inflate ratings out of courtesy, nor do we publish reviews intended to disparage. Every critique is grounded in the reading experience.
For Authors & Publishers
We welcome review submissions from authors and publishers in the romance, YA, and paranormal genres. While we cannot guarantee every submitted book will be reviewed, we evaluate each request carefully.
To submit a book for review consideration, please reach out via our Contact page. Include the title, genre, release date, and a brief synopsis. We'll follow up if a reviewer is available and interested.
What We Look For
- Books that fit our core genres: romance, young adult, and paranormal fiction.
- Finished or advance reader copies (ARCs) — we prefer final or near-final manuscripts.
- A clear, professional pitch that helps us match the book to the right reviewer.
What to Expect
- Review timelines vary based on reviewer availability and current queue.
- We publish reviews at our discretion; submission does not guarantee coverage.
- Honest reviews — positive, mixed, or critical — are part of our commitment to readers.
