Title: My Time in The Affair

Based on the title alone, it’s pretty clear what this story is about. So for anyone who absolutely cannot stand cheating under any circumstances, this book is probably not the one for you. However for anyone who might feel squeamish about cheating but it’s not a hard limit, I whole-heartedly encourage you to read this. It may not be an easy read for you, and at times you may even feel like you don’t like the main character, but the storytelling and the writing are so incredible that I guarantee you won’t be able to put it down.

My Time in the Affair is the story of Mischa, a woman who married her best friend when she was 19, and now 10 years later is stuck in a sexless, passionless marriage to a man who refuses to acknowledge they have any problems or go to counseling. Fed up with the entire situation, Mischa makes the decision to have a one night stand, and when her job sends her to Rome she feels the perfect opportunity present itself. However, once she gets there, Mischa just can’t go through with the betrayal. The guilt and the pain eat at her, and when she finally decides that she just isn’t the cheating kind, fate throws Tal Canaan into her life, and a night of no strings attached sex turns into so much more. A one night stand turns into a full blown affair. Desire and sex turn into love.

The story switches back and forth between Mischa and Tal’s POV, and it becomes obvious that from the moment she met Tal, Mischa never stood a chance. The man is a force of nature unto himself. I swear the words “Come find me,” have never dripped with more sex or more promise than when Tal says them. He’s sexy, he’s demanding, he’s intelligent, and more than anything he wants Mischa. A feeling that Mischa has been missing and has been craving for a very long time. To feel wanted, to feel desired. He’s also a little dangerous. It’s clear from the beginning that there is more to him than meets the eye. He’s keeping things from her and the man has secrets, secr ets that could destroy everything.

From beginning to end and every word in between I loved this book. By the time I finished it I knew it was probably going to be my favorite book of 2015. Writing a story that has an affair at the heart of it is always a tricky thing, but the author handled it with so much care that I found myself understanding and empathizing with Mischa and her situation. I honestly felt like there were no “bad guys” in the story…not Mischa, not Tal, and not her husband. Which made the story all the more complex and interesting. There was no one I could point the finger at and blame definitively. It asks the question “what do you do when you find yourself married to your best friend and you love him, but you’re not IN love with him?” I shouldn’t be surprised I loved this book so much (this was the same woman who blessed the world with Jameson Kane after all) but I guess I am a little bit, that an author can write a story about an affair with so much love and depth of understanding. Everything about it was perfect. It was messy, it was emotional, it was heartbreaking, it was veeeery steamy, and it had just the right amount of mystery to keep me on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to see what this author surprises me with next.

Synopsis: ~Mischa~

I made a conscious decision to cheat on my husband.

Now, before you judge me, hear my story. Hear how much I’m like you, how similar my thoughts are to your own. Yes, I’m a horrible person. Yes, I’ve done horrible things. Yes, I don’t deserve forgiveness. Yes, bad things happened because of my actions.

But I’m willing to bet I’ve done things that maybe, just maybe, you have thought of doing.

Maybe, just maybe, you’re not as innocent as you’d like to think.

Or maybe I’m not so guilty …

WARNING: This book involves CHEATING. The word AFFAIR is in the title. The main character has an AFFAIR. In the synopsis (directly above), she states that she intentionally has an AFFAIR. If you don’t like CHEATING, then you have been VERY WELL warned. Also, this book is primarily written in the third-person narrative.

It was the only place I wanted to be, anymore.

Excerpt: “I can’t do this,” she stated bluntly. He smiled. That annoying, smirky, sly smile. “And why not, Mischa?” he asked, his voice low as he folded his arms across his chest. “Because, I’m married. I don’t want to hurt him. I like you, I really do, but I just … can’t. I don’t … I don’t want this,” her voice fell into a whisper. “You don’t want me?” Tal clarified. Misch looked away. “It’s not that,” she sighed. “You do want me.” “That doesn’t matter. I’m married.” “That didn’t matter, two minutes ago.” “Well, it matters now.” “When was the last time he touched you like that?” She looked back at Tal. “A long time,” she replied. “How long?” “Months. I’m not sure. Maybe six, maybe more.” Tal stared at her for a long moment. His eyes wandered over her face, then down her body. Clear to her feet. Back up again, lingering at her hips and breasts before locking onto her eyes. “I would touch you like that everyday,” he said softly.

About the Author:

Crazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since …, forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball – I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I’m clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT. I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there’s your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair – both a curse and a blessing – and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can’t understand me. Yeah. I think that about sums me up. Facebook | Twitter | Goodreads
